BUTLER & GREEN TAKE HOME CFL TOP PERFORMER HONOURS IN WEEK 3
TORONTO – The Canadian Football League announced today that Toronto Argonauts receiver SJ Green and defensive end Victor Butler have each been named CFL Top Performers of the Week following their performances vs. the Ottawa REDBLACKS in Week 3.
Green, who takes home his second Top Performer nod of the season, hauled in 10 passes for a career regular season high of 210 yards and his first touchdown as an Argonaut to assist the club to a 26-25 victory over the REDBLACKS in the Nation’s Capital on Saturday night. The 11-year veteran also recorded his 19th career game and second game as an Argonaut with 100+ receiving yards while matching a career-high of 10 receptions set back in 2012. Green currently ranks second in the CFL with 19 receptions for 367 yards, just two yards behind league leader Greg Ellingson.
After starting the CFL season ranked 61st all-time with 6,626 receiving yards, he will need just 22 yards to pass Argos legend Michael ‘Pinball’ Clemons for 51st and 53 yards on Thursday night in Winnipeg to enter the Top 50 pass catchers, passing Jason Tucker (7,046).
Butler had another outstanding game for the Double Blue vs. Ottawa last week. The Los Angeles, California native led the Boatmen with eight defensive tackles and three sacks. Three games into his first CFL season, the Oregon State product leads the league with seven sacks, six quarterback pressures and defensive stops on second down (6) while also notching 13 tackles and two forced fumbles.
Toronto has now taken home four Top Performer of the Week honours, the most by any team this season.
