Looking to bounce back from a tough fourth quarter loss last week in Winnipeg, the Argonauts will be led by veteran quarterback Ricky Ray, who inches closer to becoming the Argos All-Time leading passer. The sixth-year Argonaut and 15-year CFL veteran enters Monday night’s game with 15,881 passing yards and 90 touchdowns with the club on 1,972 passing attempts. Ray currently needs a total of 739 yards, nine touchdowns and 62 passing attempts to become the club’s outright all-time leading passer. Ray enters the week having thrown for 300+ yards in four consecutive games. If Ray eclipses the 300-yard mark this week vs. Ottawa he will achieive his fifth consecutive game, marking just the second time in his career that he has reached that mark. The last time Ray went five games with over 300 yards was June 27 to July 20, 2006.
At his disposal on Monday, Ray will have rangy and sure-handed target SJ Green, who he continues to develop his chemistry with on what seems to be a weekly basis. Green enters Week 5 of CFL action with 24 catches for 452 yards and a touchdown to the lead the CFL. In the Argos last matchup vs. Ottawa, Green popped off for a career-high 10 catches for 210 yards and his first touchdown in Double Blue.
It wouldn’t be an Argos game day without fan favourites! Argos faithful are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the pre-game festivities surrounding the stadium, including tailgating and The Shipyard. Fans looking to get game ready and loose ahead the Monday’s opening whistle, can enjoy cheap ice cold $4 beer and drinks as well as a selection of food truck options to dabble into for a pre-game snack starting at 4:30 pm.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Argos back-to-back Grey Cup Championships in 1996 and 1997, fans will get a chance to meet some of their favourite Argos from those teams at an autograph signing at the Shipyard Tailgate in Ontario Place Lot 2 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.
In addition to the ’96-97 Grey Cup Championship teams being honoured and celebrated during a half-time ceremony, former Argo Doug Flutie, who quarterbacked both of those teams and was named the MVP in both Grey Cups, will be officially named an All-Time Argo prior to kickoff on Monday night. As part of the celebrations, fans attending the game will receive a commemorative Doug Flutie Bobblehead (while supplies last).
Flutie’s name and number will be added to the All-Time Argos banner that hangs from the rafters above the south end zone at BMO Field.
