ARGOS RE-SIGN WR COOMBS & DL GAYDOSH

TORONTO – The Toronto Argonauts have extended Canadian WR Anthony Coombs for one year through 2019 and Canadian DL Linden Gaydosh for two years through 2020. Both contracts were extended prior to the conclusion of the Argos regular season.

Coombs, 26, has spent five seasons with Toronto after being drafted third overall by the club in 2014 out of the University of Manitoba. The 5'9, 199-pound receiver has been bit by the injury bug the last two seasons, having only played in 12 games; 10 in 2017 and two in 2018. When healthy, Coombs has been one of the most versatile threats in the CFL, lining up in the slot, at running back as well as returning kicks. In 53 career games, Coombs has racked up 194 yards on the ground, 170 receptions for 1,539 yards, five touchdowns (one rushing, four receiving) and amassed 296 yards on 16 kick returns.

In four seasons at the University of Manitoba, Coombs rushed for 2,232 yards and 17 touchdowns while adding 840 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns.

Gaydosh, 27, was drafted first overall in the 2013 CFL Draft by the Hamilton Tiger Cats but the Peace River, Alberta native elected to sign with the Carolina Panthers of the NFL that summer instead. Gaydosh was placed on injured reserve for all of 2013 and released by Carolina in August of 2014. The 6'4, 298-pound defensive tackle returned to Hamilton shortly thereafter playing in nine games for the Ti-Cats that season. An Achilles injury forced Gaydosh to miss the entire 2015 season and after only one game with Hamilton in 2016, he was traded to Saskatchewan but did not see any playing time for the Riders. Following his release from Saskatchewan in August of 2017, the former Calgary Dino signed with Toronto, winning a Grey Cup a few months later. In 35 career games, Gaydosh has totaled 16 defensive tackles and three sacks.

Played four years at the University of Calgary and compiled 90.5 tackles, six sacks and one interception. Gaydosh won the Peter Gorman Trophy as the U Sports Rookie of the Year, was named the defensive MVP of the 2009 Hardy Cup and Second Team-All Canadian in 2011.
