ARGOS JAMES WILDER JR. EARNS BACK-TO-BACK CFL TOP PERFORMER HONOURS

Tuesday, September 19, 2017 — TORONTO - For the second straight week, Toronto Argonauts running back James Wilder Jr. has been named a CFL Top Performer of the Week.

One week after posting a career day (257 combined yards) against the Eskimos that included the fourth-highest single-game rushing total (190 yards) in Argonauts history, Wilder Jr. racked up 218 combined yards (141 rushing and 77 receiving) and a touchdown in a win against Montreal on Saturday. His 331 rushing yards in two straight games is the highest two-game total in modern Argos history.

Last week, Wilder’s 76-yard touchdown run was good for the longest rush in the CFL this season. He out did himself this past weekend by rattling off an 85-yard touchdown in the third quarter, good for the longest run in 41 years by an Argonaut player. His productivity the last two weeks has catapulted Wilder into sixth place in CFL rushing yards (503) this season with only 60 carries and has given the first-year back a league-high 8.4 yards per carry.

Wilder, the son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ all-time leading rusher, was quick to share this honour with his offensive line last week and continued that praise in the aftermath of yet another big performance.

This is the first time an Argonaut has been awarded CFL Top Performer in consecutive weeks since Trevor Harris went back-to-back in Weeks 1 and 2 of the 2015 season.

Five Argos players have accounted for eight Top Performer of the Week honours so far this season. Wilder joins S.J. Green as the second Argo with multiple selections:
